What is wards of protection?

Wards of protection are legal arrangements made by a court for individuals who are unable to make decisions about their own welfare or finances. These individuals may be minors, elderly people suffering from dementia, or individuals with mental or physical disabilities. A guardian is appointed by the court to make decisions on behalf of the ward, and the guardian is required to act in the best interests of the ward. Wards of protection must be reviewed periodically to ensure that they are still necessary and that the guardian is acting in the best interests of the ward.
